A back button lets users return to where they came from, undoing forward navigation one step at a time. In apps it usually appears as a left-pointing arrow in the top-left corner. It provides a reliable escape route and supports a sense of control.

Don't confuse it with
A back button steps backward through visit history one screen at a time; breadcrumbs jump directly to any ancestor level regardless of the path taken to get there.
